If you had the power to undo Mankind's mistakes or accidents of history, which living thing would you bring back from the dead, based on:

(a) Likely future utility to the human race (somewhat ironically);
(b) Any reason that you like - e.g. 'I'd love to see a live dinosaur'?

Remember that plant species have become extinct too, in the course of our never-ending quest to screw up this planet.

(Just suspend disbelief for a while - don't rule out species that were eliminated by natural selection or normal evolution)

That is a very good question, a real brain cruncher!

Nothing that we bring back would have any beneficial effect on the planet as it is today. Dinosaurs would grow too large to be controlled by any native species here, to their populations would explode, creating competitive exclusion and endangering native fauna. Carnivorous dinosaurs would be too large and the native mammal mega fauna would be reduced drastically.

If I were t bring anything back, it would be something from the Pleistocene, possibly a wooley mammoth, or sabre-toothed tiger. The sabre tooths could replace native species of big cat that are being hunted to extinction as we speak. And the mammoths could be raised on farms for meat.

But, I would have to say the grey wolf from North eastern North America, and Probably the Bison form the Western Plains

These animlas were driven extinct locally in these regions (Extirpated) and they should be returned to fulfill the natural roles they were originally given before man stepped in and ruined it.

Grey wolves were hunted to near extinction when bounties were placed on their heads soem 200 years ago. Now look at the North east, over run by white tailed deer, a highly invasive and destructive animal. It is because of the white tailed deer that moose are being pushed out of new England and southern Canada (Paralophostrongylus tenuis), so bring back the wolves and get that natural predator back in to control their numbers.

The bison of the west were almost completely extirminated because of over hunting and the wasteful nature of mankind. Bring them back to make up for the stupidity that our species demonstrates.

Somebody tell "da king" that the brown bear is not extinct... it is the grizzly or kodiak. Name change due to region but are the same species.

I'd go with T-Rex and slow running fat people! Oh wait... there are still a ton of slow running fat people, lol! Just to let humans know what it's like to be hunted!!!

Excellent topic question!

tasmanian tiger, passenger pigeon, hawaiian crow, black footed ferret. I choose these because all of these extinctions were pretty recently caused by humans. All of these animals could easily fit right back into the ecosystem as their habitat still exists.

Note: Hawaiian crow and black footed ferret are extinct in the wild.

None. Extinction takes place for a reason. I don't think we would be able to share this planet with dinosaurs for example.

The Neanderthal man and the Mammoth. Neanderthals would be good and cheap labor (you Americans wouldn't need your "illegal" immigrants anymore) and Mammoths would be used as their meat cattle.

1) fairies
2) elves

because if something is extinct, you can't bring it back. Therefore, if I can do something impossible, I should do it with class!
