Zidane, Barthez, Ribery, Sagnol, Trezeguet, Henry, are all French, because they were all born in France. The rest of the players obtained French citizenship, but they were born in Africa or the colonies. And yes, this is a racist question! I agree with Essex Corcaigh.

Where are you from? Are you of a pure descent for your country? What does it matter what color of skin the players are who represent their countries. The countries who qualified for the World Cup know the rules and aren't going to chance it. The French players were all French. And for the last time Zinedine Zidane was born in France, but his descent is that of Algeria. Not an Arabian Algerian, but a true Algerian. I'm American, born in America, but with different descents. Try finding an American who is an American of pure descent. There are none except for the Native Indians.
This is probably true of most people from many countries, because we are a global world. Unfortunately whether it be in America or any other country in the world, or on Yahoo! Answers, there are always going to be people who are racists of ethnic backgrounds, skin colors, and people's religions.
You did ask a racist question even though you may not have realized it.
Maybe everyone should stop and remember what the 2006 World Cup theme was. Fight Against Racism
Maybe everyone asking and answering these questions could start to practice this since we all have two things in common;
we are human beings and we love soccer!!

Do you think only the US, Brazil, Canada or Australia have the right to build a nation on a multicultural basis? France has been an immigration coutry for over 150 years now, with thousands of Polish, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, African an Asian people settleing in the country.
And... Thuram, Henry and Chimbonda are originally from Guadeloupe, Malouda from French Guyana, all French territories for at least 2 or 3 centuries. That´s only 4 examples of black players who feel as French as their president and would consider you a dummy if you would try to convince them that they're not!

I just read you question about the french team and I'm not going to judge you based on that question alone.I'm currently living in the Caribbean and many of the players on the french national team have roots in the french caribbean islands such as Martinique and Guadeloupe. These islands if you research on wikipedia, are part of France, they're not independent and a part of the european union. Hence many players of afro-caribbean heritage qualify to play on the french national team!

What a pathetic question ! It is a racist statement. If anybody qualifies to play for a country then they are entitled to play for that country. It's their choice. For your information, seeing as you obviously haven't a clue what you're talking about, the majority of the French squad were born in France, including Zidane (Marseilles). I wish we could get people on here with a bit of intelligence.

The real Qustion is how many are French by heritage, not just by holding a passport ?
I just applied for a French passport and now I'm French. Next week I'll be German, next year I will apply for Australian citizenship. It's that easy when you have talent and countries will scrable to get you in. The highest bidder WINS.

Ribery, Basthez (i think that's how you spell you), Sagnol, and few on the bench. But...why do you even bother to ask this question though. They are all qualifying players that have French citizenships.

Yes, of course, they were all French, as is the rules.
They can play for France because either one of their parents or in some cases a distant relative holds a French passport. If they hold one of those babies, they are more than welcome to play for France.
They were crap anyway
