We have a grape arbor, but there are too many insects, problems with fungus (with humidity) and water issues. I want to replace it. I want something that won't destoy the wood arbor we had built for it. Any ideas?

Campsis radicans, or trumpet vine is a nice choice for that area. Hummingbirds love it! Honeysuckle, once established, is very drought tolerant, as is the climbing Snail Vine: http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=VIGNA_CARACALLA

You can look into climbing roses as well.
