I think that there have been many books and speeches that have helped shape who I am today. Some of them in subtle ways, and others with much more impact. Any kind of knowledge will change you, whether you view it in a postive or negative light. If it makes you stop and think, you've been changed by it.
I think the fiction that changed me most was The Complete Works of Shakespeare. I've read my copy many times, and each time I discover something new that makes me ponder life and my humanity over and over. He was a master playwright, and knew humans and they ways in which they behave so well, that he crafted plays that have endured for over 500 years.
A lot of the Greek philosophers really changed the way I think too, especially Socrates and Plato. Reading the works of these great thinkers made me think about my own life when I was younger, and I started having questions of my own and seeking out the answers. It helped lead me to the belief structure that I hold today, made even more powerful by having had the opportunity to walk where these men spoke and lived.
I think I take away something from every book I read (even if I didn't like it) and every speech I hear (even if I don't agree with the ideas). We must always be constantly growing, changing, and seeking out new knowledge. This is what keeps us from stagnating, festering, and becoming miserable creatures stuck in a mindless rut.

I think something I read or hear could change how I do things. I don't think it could entirely change me.
If I am listening to a speech or reading a book for a specific answer to something, then a change could come because of that.
Personally, I think I may start to do things a little differently and that may eventually change my life, but I don't think I would undergo an immediate change or immediately noticeable change.

Yes. A good book or speech can provoke some new ideas and if you were to adopt these ideas you would find yourself changed a bit. You would just need to be receptive to the ideas.

No doubt. Great books have altered my views on life. Especially 1984, books by Paul Fussell and Noam Chomsky.

i think of so. It became into an editorial that I examine some woman with stress sickness - of which I have been instructed on the time that I had. interior the object she defined how fairly than suffering in self pity, or attempting to repair her situation, she adapted to it. She outfitted her entire life in a fashion that worked for her and her sickness, and he or she lived a chuffed soft life with a thriving profession and a kinfolk. It replaced the way i presumed-approximately my destiny. I had consistently theory i necessary to repair myself. That i became into broken and incapable of being something till i should be fastened. yet I realised on a similar time as reading that article that I wasn't broken. I in simple terms necessary to think of approximately it otherwise and adapt my life to extra healthful how I felt. i comprehend i've got not got generalised stress sickness anymore. I actual have an extreme social phobia, however the lesson continues to be. i will nonetheless have a protracted, chuffed life and settle for myself for who i'm, flaws and all.

Sometimes you read something or hear something that resonates deep within you and you want to follow that feeling.
Sometimes someone else expresses something you believe, but in a new way and you want to expand that belief.
Sometimes the way something is expressed is counter to what you have believed until that point, but makes so much sense, you start to think differently about the topic.

Yes, many great orators like Hitler have shown us that they can take a ridiculous idea and get millions of normally sensible people to follow them.
