Two months, November and December. It was pretty cold; we used propane heaters in the house, propane stove. We had to keep a window open despite the cold so we wouldn't suffocate. It was pretty awful.

Same here. During the ice storm we went approx a week but some in Northern Maine went for months. The ice storm started in Janurary and by June some of the extreme parts of Maine still didn't have their power back.
But I live in Central Maine so I only went about a week or so.

It was about four or five days, back in 1990-something. We had a horrible ice storm in Virginia, and the weight of the ice on the power lines caused them to snap and fall down. The truly horrible thing is, we lived in the country and had a well. The well pump was electric, so we not only had no electricity, but no running water, either. We heated the house with a woodstove, so at least we were warm! Smelly, but warm. :)

I went over a week without power in winter in Michigan. We used a lot of candles, blankets, and cooked on our charcoal grill. But the power outage in 2003 was the worst because it was in the Summer and its harder to cool down.

The Amish do no longer stay as purely as you think of. they have the conveniences immediately, purely that they are run in a different way than ours. in case you have a private loan or lease an house then you somewhat are required to have electrical energy or you is purely no longer residing there long. there are of direction people who've gotten off the grid with the aid of fact of image voltaic yet theory they could sell lower back their electrical energy to the government, yet i think of the government has gotten smart to that and are fining them. i could assume that in case you lived rural then you somewhat could be waiting to ruin out with the common existence in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's needed which you have working water, and reckoning on what style of climate is in the section you would be wanting warmth a minimum of in the chilly factors and that could be required by using the county/city. a lot of properties or cellular properties have long previous up in flames with the aid of fact human beings theory they could use area warmers and that doesn't artwork. There are nonetheless some properties right here in Florida that have not have been given any electric yet those are grandfathered in. hearth alarms could be on battery yet you will ought to substitute that month-to-month on some alarms. immediately that's way puzzling to decide for a existence-form such as you're thinking. There already are a lot of bums obtainable who stay on the streets or in the country yet proceed to exist handouts and lower back doors of eating places and finally the city/county gets disgusted with human beings peeing throughout and everywhere and ending up in penal complex that they make regulations aainst it. human beings do do day artwork in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's ordinarily adult men. adult men can do issues maximum women human beings can no longer. in case you alter right into a bum then you somewhat won't stay long (for many motives) and finally will exchange into mentally sick. So what you're asserting is which you do no longer understand the thank you to construct self esteem for youself, which you're giving up in the previous you have even began. wow, that's unhappy. And which you do no longer decide for to be to blame for your self. i think of you go with for a competent chatting with. the place in heavens call are your mum and dad?
