Critics call it "Missing White Woman Syndrome"

Yes, the media tends to report mostly white women rather than other minorities..
The general American public is mostly white. The media wants to make money. They do that by getting white people's attention. People would rather watch a news story about a white woman and her baby or a white high school girl missing in Aruba rather than a minority missing somewhere.

It is all a shame .I am white. I work for a minority company,(hispanic owned) We hire a lot of black people , some hispanic, we have a dozen or so who are from Bosnia, and speak little or no English. We have white people , orential. My company does not see color as an issue. The point is we are all living , breathing, feeling, human beings. We all have families to support, and are hard working.

I look at all people, in every race as individuals, and have made friends with a lot of interesting , intelligent , and warm people. If the rest of the world could do this, we would all be a lot happier , and there would a whole lot less, hate an violence.

Just get to know each person as an individual, not a race. You don't have to date or marry anyone, if you choose not to. Every one should try to live by this , you never know, maybe you will have at the least, a better circle of friends

In closing the owner of my company is a very smart and intelligent man. He went from owning a small recruitng company , expanded with purchasing a manufacturing company , bought a second building. He now owns a third and yet a forth location. He did all this from his intellegence, caring about his employees on an individual basis. He hired some close friends to get this started. His caring attitude has carried over to all the employees. We have made our company # 1 in the world in the manufacture of seat belt latches from scratch. He has won many awards for his achievments, as well as some of the other employees have also. He has been recognized in Detroit Crane's Business Magazine , as well as local newspapers for his many acheivements and involvement with local charities.

We are a minority owned company, and do have local recognition, not sure of nationally though. Since the majority of the population is white that could be why we see more recognition here . Maybe we need to start a trend and seek out minority business owners to give them the recognition they deserve , start up a web site. Contact the media to get them the recognition they need. I would love to see this all change.

It's truly a low blow when you have Normen Bates defending Bernard Hopkins! Thats why America is so divided when you have people who think they only belong in one group and their group will always be superior. Do you find it obvious how some contributors here think black slick boxers are superior? Do you find other contributors defending Maywether and Hopkins because if their skin color affiliation with those boxers. I am a fckin American and I can tell you most Americans aren't like Normen Bates, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, Aver, Frank the Tank, americasfavoritethug,Kenny, black power, Jeff soriano or Adolf Hitler. Most Americans regardless of race think everyone is equal in dignity and humanity. Not like those guys I mentioned. Bernard Hopkins needs to apologize. His comments were racist. There is nondoubt about that only racist people will support him. But even in a great country of American there are also racist devils so be will still continue to get the support of many members here.

I have noticed this. I noticed something else too. You mention Black, Asian, Hispanic, no Native American. We are truly the forgotten race . No one cares about our dead or missing. NO ONE! Try walking in our shoes . Everything in this country is unfair to us. It is that way on purpose. We are and always have been considered less than human. If you don't believe me research it. Even George Washington felt this way. We were to be exterminated. Like mosquito's a pest and a nuisance. We were hunted for sport and called red skinned animals. I say we because my ancestor's blood runs through my vein's and the mentality is the same. Admit it. When you were complaining about unfairness we never even crossed your mind. Life isn't fair. Just be thankful you still have your cultures and your languages. You aren't stuck on some shitty reservation and sent to federal prison for a misdemeanor because it's Government land you live on. ***** to a native and you might get slapped. Hey that's just my opinion and as we all know are opinion is worth jack.....

Personally I think that people focus far to much time on race. I dont see it as an issue. True to say I have never encountered racism, but i grew up in an area where mostly everyone was the same colour and it didnt affect my understanding that people with different colour skin are simply just people.
Any way to get to your question (sorry for the detour) You may be right as all t.v companies have to focus on their target audience. If the audience is going to focus on one group then the TV will reflect that.

The stories that have the best spots are the ones that have the most people talking about it. Unfortunately not many non-whites have access to the media or know how to use the media.

Its not just you, I've had this discussion many times before w/ people of various ethnicities and we all agree. Fox News especially is a poster child for such acts.

Because the media is afraid that if they spend too much time on a single minority race that it could look like exploitation.

It is like anything else, the more involved a community is, the more likely that they will get press coverage. It is a shame to see anyone ever hurt or kidnapped.

i agree, i hardly ever see an Asian face on any magazine or starring in movies, there are no multi-platinum Asian music artists. . .there are no TV shows with Asians as the main roles. . .it's sad really.
