For some reason it's the new look for models lately ( last 6mo to a year) we did a photo shoot a while back and I asked one of the models to smile and look happy and she said "I don't do that"

They're trying to look pouty which equates to sexy. Unfortunately, the fashion industry is not attuned to real people's wants, desires, needs, and preferences. For example, most men I know say they love and prefer when they see a picture of a woman who is smiling - as opposed to the pissed off look you speak of.
Also, and this is just my humble and very politically incorrect opinion, but the fashion industry is full of gay men and do you really think they are clued into what straight men like? No, and do you think it's in their best interest to make the competition look as best as they can? No -
Now, this is a sweeping generalization but after receiving a dozen of awful haircuts by self professed hair mastroes who were obviously gay -- and seeing some of the fashion collections as of late - you just know they are out of touch with what straight men like!
So, don't you think haughty queens who work on the set of a shoot would pose their models in the same haughty fashion?

Wouldn't you be pissed off if you looked like a walking skeleton? The magazine has to airbrush them so they don't look like holocaust victims. All for the sake of looking good in underwearz.

I think they don't want them to smile because it makes it harder to airbrush the photos.
