I believe that a baby can recognise both their parents as soon as they are born. They have spent the last 9 months listening to their muffled voices. The next thing they get used to is your smell. I'm not sure how long it takes for them to recognise you by sight as a baby's sight is limited for the first few weeks.

As soon as they are able to hear sounds in the womb. Babies recognize the mother's voice the most. But, if the father is in the picture and his voice can also be heard often - then his voice is also a familiar voice.

After birth, baby recognizes mother's voice first. And face immediately, when mother talks. If father is in the picture, this is the same. If father is not in the picture, then baby does not bond with the father until they are older.

A baby will respond to the parents voice right after birth by turning the head toward the voice. She has been hearing mom's voice for months in the womb. Within weeks the baby will recognize her primary caretakers by sight.

The baby knows who the mother is when it is handed to you after the delivery especially when it heard your voice when you were pregnant. The father it depends on if the father talked to it during incubation time in the womb. Or it may take a little while after coming out to get used to daddy. That's why you have special bonding time during feedings, baths and things like walks in the park or putting on clothes, make time and talk to your baby because it's good for their brains.

It is from my experience, that a baby can recognise mom and dad when they're born. They've spent months in there getting to know you personally.. listening to you talk, knowing your heartbeat, knowing your smell.. they'll know it's you when they get out into the world.

they can identify their parents voices within minutes of being born. dads included if the dad spoke to them in utero. they also identify with their parents smell which is why it is important for parents not to wear strong perfume or cologne in the first 6 weeks. from 6 weeks they will start identifing their parents visualy.
