Great question! My Dad never went on vacation, and I detested his politics. I thought I'd NEVER lose interest in current music trends and just listen to "the old stuff" like he did. I also said I'd never become less physically active, as he did.
For better or worse, I now hate going away, I agree with his politics, I don't listen to "new" music and I am too much of a couch potato.
Plus I say some of the things he used to say. And I have his mannerisms.
Dad has been gone about 12 years now. If he were alive, I'm sure he'd get a laugh!

My mom was very obsessive about cleaning, I swore up and down I wouldn't be like that..........I throw a fit if a plate stays in the sink more then 10 minutes. Our house is spotless ALL THE TIME

Be afraid of everything, especially driving. Afraid to drive at night (although I'm night blind, so that's kind of founded), in bad weather, on the highway, afraid of lightening, can't set cleaning supplies on the counter, electricity, etc......she was paranoid and although I'm not A LOT of it rubbed off onto me through learned behavior. It sucks having a crazy mom!

Yelling at my kids. Every once in a while, I find myself yelling at them to clean their rooms or finish their dinner. I swore I'd never do that....

Similar things as you mentioned. The light thing drives me nuts! And those mysterious answers that drove us all nuts as kids ...
"You'll understand when you get older" and the famous "because I said so, that's why!" LOL!

i had a great deal of respect for my mother and father while i was growing up. their lives were not easy, but they always made sure that if there was any trouble going on we children were the last to hear of it.
i would feel honoured if my own children thought as highly of me as i think of my own father.
i don't think they do, and i don't blame them for that.
