I dont know alot about buses but maybe use a fuel with higher octane or even use nitro.

Give him very little to eat on the day. Maybe a couple of beaten-up raw eggs with glucose in them. Before the race, give a dose of glycerine and honey to help breathing.

It is called Oil of Clove. Rub a bit of this oil on the dogs privatesand it will go much faster. This was once called Hi-Life.
