Computers have radiations that may be harmful to people. In order to dispose of your old computer safely, try to search for whether your neighbourhood has computer recycler. They will pay you some money for the com also. Other way to safely dispose of the computer is to sell it to recyling plant. They will use the parts they could recycle such ar glass, metal, copper and such.
Support Recycling for a better future.

First be sure your hard drive is erased COMPLETELY. Use the program listed below to erase it.

Second find in your local area a computer repair shop. Many times they will take old computers. You might even get a tax break if you donate it to be used at a school or other charety.

To Completely Wipe your Hard-drive clean use the following.
Recommended by the University of Harvard Computer Science Division.

"Darik's Boot and Nuke (CDR/CDRW Version) - [2006-03-19 | Freeware | 1.9 Mb | DOS | 7914 | 4.87 ]
Securely wipes the hard disks of most computers."

The direct link is currently at:
http://dban.sourceforge.net/

USE EXTREME CAUTION and label this disk! Only insert in a PC you want to wipe clean of ALL DATA!

NOTE:
Most Hard-drives are shielded from external magnetism so unless you crack open the case and rub an extremely powerful magnet on the disk, that wont do any good. Floppy disks are unshielded and you can erase them with a magnet, but not a shielded Hard-drive.

Re-Formatting your Hard-drive will NOT erase any information. it only clears the FAT File Allocation Table, it does not erase ANY files as most people think.
Give me a hard-drive that has just been formatted and I can get EVERYTHING off it and copy to a NEW drive with NO PROBLEM at all.

There is a company called shred-it which will totally dispose of your old computer, at a cost.
Some charities will take them as well but I was unable to find a current working link for you.

Depends on age, what's wrong with them, etc.. Usually, if you try to take them to the dump, they'll tell you to take them to recycling, and recycling probably gets confused too.
How old are the computers? Are they repairable? If they are, donate them to a local charity, or a local school that might need them.

The office supply companies like Office Depot and Office Max use to collect them from people who want to bring them in for recycling, but I don't think they do this anymore. Most people in my area just put them out in the trash.

What you're able to do with torn up outfits is discover them to your backyard. Plant some seedlings and as quickly as they gotten taller, place the outfits around the vegetation. this could avert weeds from getting with the aid of and could enable in basic terms the chosen vegetation to strengthen. additionally, you are able to shrink off sleeves and pant-legs. Tie off one end, and once you have a vine plant with a heavy fruit (melons, surprisingly), you are able to place the fruit in there mutually as that's small and carry % up the outfits. this could shop the fruit supported, so it won't fall off the vine in the previous attending to a competent length.
