Keep going with the acetone .Try using cotton balls to apply the acetone because you will get more of it on the stain. Use paper towels to blot blot blot.... I honestly don't think anything will work. Non acetone nail polish remover should work eventually if you have concerns about acetone. Do tiny sections at a time rather than smearing the whole lot at once.

You really need to leave the harsh chemicals alone. It is not necessary to clean our homes with industrial-strength cleaners. You can get a product called "Sol-U-Mel" that is non-toxic and completely natural that will remove nailpolish marks without harming you or your carpet. I have used it myself for all kinds of things, one being permanent Sharpie marker on the keys of my piano and on the hardwood floors of the living room. It came right off. It's also great as a laundry booster for removing set-in stains from clothes. You can order it at www.melaleuca.com but you must order with an existing customer. Their stuff is all environmentally friendly and sound and non-toxic, non-carcinogenic. They are in the fore-front for preventive care. Really great stuff. You don't have to store anything in any particular way, no gloves are needed. No specially ventillated areas, not harmful to children. And it all WORKS!! And at a cost that is often cheaper than what you pay for at the grocery or hardware store. http://eco-naturals.imgenius.net for more details. I am telling you, this stuff really works. We were going to get rid of our dishwasher because we couldn't get the hardwater stains off of things. NOTHING worked, not jetdry or Cascade or Electrosol, or CLR, or Lime-Away. Nothing. And then we tried the Melaleuca stuff and it is like a commercial. And again, non-toxic. No harmful fumes in my home. And, I don't need a rinse aid either. And it's cheaper than the other stuff. And no residue that we later ingest when we eat off of the dishes. So decide for yourself, or find out how you can get the products yourself. This is no scam. Just a very happy customer. And a healthier one too.

I thought acetone was (a) illegal, and (b) highly carcinogenic. There should be non-acetone based solvents out there?
