Nothing's really UP with Beckett. First he didn't pitch well the first time out vs. the Indians they beat him up pretty well. (That's why I sat him in Fantasy Baseball.) Second, he's never pitched this much in a season. He has had so many Blister problems this is the furthest he's gotten without having any. He's only 38 innings away from his career high. He'll have bumps, but this is the year he develops his Durability. Next year he'll be even better, and be a very, very good pitcher.

Remember, he's always been compared to Nolan Ryan. Ryan had the same problems. Ryan was a 300 game winner yes. He was also 8 games shy of being a 300 game loser. He'd give up close to 20 HR's per year. It can go out as hard as it comes in. The rewards outweigh the risks. I think.

Jerry Remy stated on Sports Radio 850 WEEI that in his opinion Beckett's tipping his pitches. If a batter knows what's coming, it's like Batting practice.
While Varitek's on the DL he will be working with Beckett on concealing pitches and "mixing it up more". That should cut down on the HR total he's allowing.
Same thing happened a little to Randy Johnson last year (32 HR allowed).

Bottom line with Beckett is he's still learning to pitch...he's got nasty enough stuff that sometimes he can muscle his way through an entire start, especially in the NL where he could blow his 96-97 MPH heater by hitters...in the AL you have to mix it up more, and he's still not ALWAYS able to throw his (nasty) curve for strikes...he's also not slow enough with his change-up yet...so he relies too heavily on the fastball, and when he loses control if it, even by a few inches, AL hitters will do some damage...

Well, I love that cocky bastard! Yes, he had an off night, but as I said before, he makes no excuses except to blame himself!
I'm not going to talk shi* about him because of it. I'm a diehard fan and will stand by the Red Sox cause I know they'll come out ahead!

So say what you will..doesn't bother me at all!!

Usually he pitches pretty well, but that grandslam...it makes me wanna cry just thinking about,lol.6 runs in one inning, that's tough.I think he was just having an off day, though i guess that's kind of an understatement considering...

My personal opinion is that he's overrated, anyway. I expected him to give up a ton of long balls. He's a cocky bastard, too.
