Forbes magazine ranks Bill Gates as the richest man in the world. But according to other sources, such as Swedish business weekly, Veckans Affarer and Germany's T-Online, the richest man in the world is the founder of IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad.
To a large part, who is the richest man in the world is a function of exchange rates. During the 80s when the yen was strong, a Japanese real estate mogul was ranked the world's richest man.
The US dollar has been very strong in the 90's. But for about the past five years, the US dollar has been on the decline. If the US dollar continues to wane, Bill Gates will likely be dethroned from the #1 spot from even the Forbe's ranking.
