I suffer from heavy, painful periods every so often, which on occasion i have to stay in bed the pain is so bad, it can affect work and times when I need to go away. I want to take the pill, not as a form of contraception, but just to regulate and ease my crimson wave time. I know the temptation would be there to use it for sex, but i just wondered if anyone knew if the church had anything against me using it for the sole purpose of my period. i am a catholic, i am aware of the stance of the church on using it for contraception and i am aware of the side effects and the complications it brings :) thanks

--Is Catholic--

You should know first that there are serious health risks associated with using "the pill" which are not commonly talked about. These risks include those to your own self, your fertility, and to future children. I would do some good research and would look into other medication first. You need to be informed and it is good that you say that you are informed.

Secondly, the Church is not morally opposed to you using the pill so long as you are not sexually active. While you are using the pill, if you are married, you must not engage in any sexual activity until the effects of the last taken pill are COMPLETELY out of your system (again grave risk to the unborn child). This is a considerable length of time and is dependent on the type of medication that you would be taking. If you are not married, then you shouldn't be having sexual activity anyway. If you get engaged, just understand that you should be off the pill for a few weeks/months before your wedding night.

The usage of the medication is not contraceptive if you are not having sexual activity, and will not have sexual activity while you are on the pill or still under its effects, thus this usage is not a problem. Be warned though, that the pill itself is dangerous.

As to the poster a few above, the Church is opposed to abortions for the health of the mother. These too are considered gravely immoral sins. Only procedures where the death of the child is not a primary reason are allowed (ectopic pregnancies etc.). The deliberate killing of one individual human for the well-being of another human is immoral.

Ask your priest. I am not Catholic but from what I understand, the church is against the use of contraceptives for whatever use. Pope John Paul 2 came out with an encyclical on this topic just before he passed away. People were expecting a softer stance and he hit that one pretty hard again.

It isn't in opposition to Catholic instructing to take medicinal drugs for a indispensable scientific purpose unrelated to birth control, although the ones medicinal drugs could have contraceptive part results. The Church in no way forbids any person to obtain required medicine. Likewise it's not in opposition to Catholic instructing for a pregnant lady who discovers she has uterine melanoma to have the specified hysterectomy, although the demise of the unborn baby would possibly influence. Mr. Mosby is surely mistaken. The Church teaches that there are 2 similarly principal functions of the sexual courting, which can not be separated - the mutual development in love and harmony of the couple, and the procreation of kids. Emphasis on both this sort of to the exclusion of the opposite could be similarly disordered.

Use it for medicinal purposes.
The church is not against terminations for life saving purposes.

i hope not deedee.

God wants us all to be reasonably happy and to exercise our freedom as long as we do not infringe other's freedom. taking a pill to ease painful periods is alright, i suppose. i mean, you're not hurting others nor yourself, are you? and i reckon God wouldn't want you to feel pain, as He is not a sadist.

hava good day. get well soon.
