I don't believe it is safe because people can impersonate you on-line by copying ur pic. They are alot of evil people in this world.

I hope so, cause my pics are all over the place. Just don't post things like SS #, phone #, address, credit card #. Actually, nothing's really safe online, you can type a person's name in the search engine, and there are sites you can go to that allow you to view any person's address, relatives, age, marital status, credit and criminal history, practicaly everything. And all that was just from typing in the name. They charge for the search, but still.

As long as it's not a picture you wouldn't want someone you know seeing, it shouldn't be a problem. Just keep in mind who might be googling you in the future, and who might come across that picture. I've known some people who stupidly put very dumb pictures of themselves on their webpages, then they realized that that might be a bad impression to give to potential employers (in academic fields, departments that are looking to hire people often check out the webpages that the candidates have through their departments before they even contact them so they can look at their CV and research interests to see if it would be a waste of money to bring them out for an interview).

It depends on where and how you do it.

As others have mentioned, don't show any personal info. and be sure about the site you are posting them on, as far as if they are reputable and not likely to sell your pics to perverts.

Millions of people post pics on line....so to answer, I do think it can be 'safe' if you know what you are doing.

It depends. To your chat friends whom you feel are close enough and to people whom you think are trust worthy. But then pic of yourself online will also attract unwanted attention wherein you will be approached for dating and unknown people asking for an indecent proposal. If you think you can withstand all these on slaughts then go ahead, but just weigh the pros and cons and then do so at your own risk.

I think that showing a pic is fine as long as you don't include any personal info.

Also, make sure it is something that you don't mind other people seeing. You never know where it might wind up. (think of all those emails that go around with people doing stupid things, looking like morons!)

Not now a days.
Because there are people who will take your pic, change it using some tools and post it on some funny sites.

People do use it a lot in chat rooms.. to keep a fake identity

If such things does not matter to u ... its fine

Yes... how is a con artist or child molestor going to locate you through a pic? Only if you have yor full name in the file extension or the background is such that it is easily identifiable...
