if you mean your wifi reception, then yes. the wifi connection clocking speed is determined by the signal strength, so it can be anywhere from 54mbps to 1 mbps with 802.1g. so if you're doing a "local" download, a download between 2 locally connected machines then it can make a significant difference. if it's a download from the internet or from some "other" place then it depends on the lowest link transmission speed of the intervening networks.

assuming you are talking about a wireless connection that depends on how much bandwidth you are getting from your Internet provider. Most wi-fi receivers are still faster than most isp download speeds unless you have a real fast connection or a real crap wireless NIC.
