And a metaphor that holds good today in a world of discontentment and discord.

Yes, it is strange that we are all alike and yet we are so divided in our views about what is best for us and for our general wellbeing. I say so because I sense a certain element of wonder that you as well might have felt when you asked this question first to yourself.

In my opinion, we are usually in agreement what is good for us and what is bad. We have almost universally recognisable set of moral values and ethical principles, but when it comes to defining the best as human beings we are all at lose. The source of many of the confrontations is our inability to know beyond our knowledge - our beliefs, our dogmas and our convictions about the course that we think is the best for our future.

In general the reason is ignorance. The knowledge we have is mainly the knowledge extracted from the known - the material. This undermines our spiritual abilities and foresight. We all are different, we are different in terms of race, culture and geography, but we are still humans. We need the same moral, ethical and intellectual values to be better person. But we do not see similarities as much as we should see.

I think, we have not very well in view the all-important standpoint we need to be aware of ourselves as humans and therefore ascertain all our needs to be a good person. This standpoint is taken over by our normal materialistic pursuits, making us only partially aware our existence. This has been said countless times but what I see is different today is shirking distances in the world. I think people will soon realise that if they are to live they need to see beyond their differences.

A flock of sheep is an old example used for a human society, where the tragedy for a flock of sheep is that it is dispersed with individual sheep as easy victims of the predator. A flock of sheep, therefore, requires a shepherd to watch over. But when the very concept or the understanding of the shepherd becomes a cause of internal contentions and disharmony then an internally developed sense of direction or purpose can be the only way forward. When people come together they develop a collective consciousness that makes possible for individuals to see together; to think and see what is good for them collectively. I am not sure about sheep, but to live as a human society we need to be aware of our individual selves, and at the same time to be conscious of our collective existence, both at a level higher than we normally experience today.

No. Not at all. We are all distinguished by a faculty called self-consciousness by use of mind and conscience. We have to be disciplined by the laws of nature and control our own mind and restrain from certain activities guided by values and other norms. To be aware of the self and be guided by the inner call is one of the many means to lead a meaningful life, otherwise life is just survival like that of sheep and cattle.

I think every one has a definition of his/her own ways.If someone deviates from their way of thinking then they are some how the black sheep.Yet many people continue to think their way is the right way.If everyone would join the flock and work as a team, things would be much smoother or easier.

We're definitely like sheep. Give us freedom from centuries of religious tyranny, and we start wandering all over the place.

I THINK, therefore I am.

Gone astray???? Is there some religious reference in that?

His Own Way??? Could that possibly relate to enough intellect, and intuition to have ones OWN ideas, and decide ones own PATH?

Is it so abstract to believe that anyone is capable of not being LED?

I don't think so. I like my individuality, and still, I get involved in matters that means something to me and to my community. I call this freedom of choice. By choice I live in a great country called Ireland and I'm not Irish !
