My God... you have to ask??? Stevie Ray Vaughan is (or, alas, was) one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) ever exponent of the electric guitar - technique, feeling, groove, soul and a decent voice to go with it. Steve Vai is technique...and....er.... that's it.

It's horse's for course..If you want technical brilliance and guitar gymnastics..it has to be Stevie Vai..but if it's heart and soul your after SRV's your man. It's unfortunate that SRV's not with us anymore as he was still discovering his full potential..so it's hard to compare him with someone still alive.I think Stevie Vai comes form the same place as Frank Zappa musically..sometimes it's just amazing and other times it's OTT. SRV's coming from the 'electric blue's trad' and he was definitely at the 'top of the pack' with it. SRV.. just by a neck!!

You're going to have to wait a bit. I'm busy splicing together the genes of Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmy Hendrix, Buckethead and Carlos Santana. The clone should be fully grown in 2 years. Can your question wait till then?
I'll call him Jevie Ray Hentanahead.
