Fender Jazz basses or Fender Precision?

jazz. me best chum got one. had the frets removed and turned it in to a lovely freetless bass. sounds lovely.
i know some some who have a precision and it sounded to tinny. might of been the strings.
but then again it's all done to personal preference.
