NO. Otherwise we in the West are NO better than they are.
Sadly, Islam - Which I understand means Peace or Submission - has a long history of intolerance. Case in point - The Assassins of Alamut a thousand years ago.
Taliban Afghanistan and Iran may ban Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Hinduism, and destroy the religious relics of other faiths - witness the Taliban desecration and destruction of some of the greatest Buddhist statues at Bamiyan in Afghanistan. A SHEER ACT OF VANDALISM. That doesn't mean we should.
Iran, one of the worlds main Islamic countries run on the lines of Sharia Law has a bad record on Tolerance and a terrrible Human Rights record too.
Case in point - a recent BBC documentary "Execution Of A Teenage Girl" about a 16 year old girl in Iran who was hanged for Crimes Against Chastity, after a forced confession, although she had been raped. This is apart from the fact that this VIOLATES the United Nations Convention on Human Rights for Children - that it is illegal to Execute Children, which Iran is a signatory to.
Judge Haji Reza'i, who was also the local mullah, prosecutor and head of the city administration, personally obtained permission from Iran's Supreme Court to execute her. He put the noose around her neck himself before she was hoisted on a crane jib arm to her death.
Just as shocking - but not surprising - was the fact that the local Morality Police who charged her also ran the local drinking hole and brothel.
This, however, doesn't mean we should sink to their level.

PS Interesting point: The word "Assassin" actually comes from Arabic. It was coined from a secretive extremist Shia Arabic-Iranian Terrorist organisation based in Lebanon and Iran called the Hashisham (Assassins) of Alamut. They were founded by Hassan i Sabbah of the Persian Ismai'ili sect in 1090. Their Mission was to kill Western Infidels and Crusaders, but they also killed a lot of other Muslims they did not like. They also conducted lots of Suicide Missions. They were major players in the international Drugs trade. The Assassins of Alamut, it is said liked to imbibe copious quantities of Hashish before they assassinated someone. Hence the origin of the word "Assassin". The Assassins were finally destroyed by the Mongols under Genghis Khan. This was greeted with much joy by orthodox Muslims. The Assassins have been a blue print for many of the modern Terrorist organisations such as Hezbollah. The more things change in the Middle East the more things seem to stay the same!

Okay lets get something straight for all you people who are thinking wrong about islam. Okay islam is open and is very tolerant about religions. Now because the taliban and the al-qaida show that this isn't true and they show hate and the total oppisite of what islam is all about I can understand where you get many of these questions frome. Now heres another thing just because one country isn't the same as the other doesn't mean you have to destroy its religon and the people in the country because of it. Now if you want to destroy the taliban and the al-qaida hey thats great but the religon and everything else no. Also let me ask you something haven't you realized the America has tried putting democracy in Iraq and that wasn't too successful?

If you ban Islam in the west we cease to allow freedom of faith. Two wrongs do not make a right!

The fact that you would like to see Islam banned will contradict your saying that the west allows freedom of faith.

That doesn't make sense. You can't ban something if your democracy says they have the freedom to believe in what they want. So if they believe in not tolerating other faiths then that is their problem, not the problem of the democratic government and none of their business really.

No Freedom of religion is what our society is based on. As for Kuta's remark there is too much freedom and it's breeding more and more extremist's, Get a clue! The extremist's seem to be congregated around the Middle East, we are not shooting each other over here in the west over religion, how about Sunnis and Shiites killing each other, Hamas and the PLO have been shooting each other, Northern Alliance vrs the Taliban, Al Queda wanting to destroy both America, Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Most religions by nature do not tolerate other religions. The US set up constitutional boundrys to keep one religion from imposing its will on any other. Perhaps intended originally to apply only to various sects of christianity, it has evolved into protection of all faiths. True freedom comes from acceptance and tolerance with minimal interference by whatever group happens to be politically dominant at any one time.

neither does christianity. all faiths beleive that they are the true path to heaven bar budisim. To bar a religion is not freedom we have the freedom to chose not a freedom to all chose the same thing and for democracy to work people have to accept that not all people beleive the same thing.

It cannot be banned since there is too much freedom in the western democracies, which is leading to more and more extremists breeding in these countries.
