Is there any sort of product which can be ran through the water passages on a 1983 envirude 75 to clean them out rather then having to dissasemble the motor? I was thinking about using the seafoam oil treatment i figure itd be fine in the water jacket but will it hurt the pump? If theres no other solution then break down how hard is it? The boat belongs to a friend and he says he has breakdowns on the whole thing, i was an auto/small motor mechanic for 5 years but this is my first out board so any help would be appreciated

thanx=)

I have actually used my own solution of seafoam, water and lime away. First add the lime away, I used 32ozs and even squirted it up through the port prior to starting the motor, to a trash can of water just about 3 inches above the intake port. Allowing it to be brought in to the system through natuaral induction while running the moter for 3-5 min at idle. Run the motor rpms up for the last 15 seconds and shut it down. Qhickly plug the lower/intake holes. Allow it to set that way for 30 minutes while you change out to freash water, then unplug the holes and rinse with Seafoam oil treatment and freach water. The seafoam will lubricate it while the lime away will breakdown any blockage. If the blockage is severe enough you can redo this several times while monitoring the output, it should get increasingly better. Stay away from engine solvents such as gunk or degreasers. My friend tried them and had to replace the lower unit. If you have to disassemble you sound more than mechanically inclined to do so..Good Luck and Fair winds and following seas from a 20 year submarine veteran..
