need to loosen cast iron plug on drain it wont loosen up

No, try heating the plug first. If you use a solvent like WD 40, it will be flammable and make the use of heat more dangerous.

Sometimes heat applied to a fitting will break the bond and then you can turn it. Be careful with cast iron; it has a tendency to crack and break.

Apply the heat to the fitting into which the plug is screwed; it may cause the fitting to expand slightly and free up the plug. Just try to apply the heat gradually and evenly over the fitting.

I've had rusty bolts that could not be turned magically become able to be turned after I warmed them up.

gotta agree with the guys who have answered already.try wd40 if you have no joy there go for a blow torch and you should get it loosened with enough heat.You may have to replace what you are removing though as the man said cast iron is very brittle,if its stuck real fast you'll probably destroy it so wear some safety specs in case it does break upon you.

very carefully or it will break the pipe.coat the plug in wd 40 or similar an make sure it can get down into the threads and let it soak.then take a big pipe wrench to slowly losen it up.
