I will give you an example for your question...

if someone is courting you, the one who is courting needs some assistance, like his FRIEND OR SOMEONE ELSE..(< referring to be the BRIDGE!) because he doesnt have time..to be the one to court you..he just send you flowers , chocolates etc thru his friend/someone else..

Sometimes, the woman was attractive to the person whose the one delivering the flowers the chocolates etc blah blah blah...Coz in that case, woman was attractive to the ones who was giving some time and quality time and affection..

But it doesnt mean that the Bridge will always be the winner..Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt..

That reminded me a Chinese ancient saying: "A balcony beside water is easier to catch the moon" ( I did my best to translated )

It makes no sense in Enlish. Let me do my best to explain: There was usually balcony or resting place in ancient Chinese garden; and there was also usally a little lake or river surround or run beside it.

And when Chinese Poetists looked at the reflection of the moon on the water, they come up with an imaginary: They feel they could reach the moon by "picking it up" from the water!
Which implied it would be harder to reach the moon from other places than from the reflection of the moon on the water.

In Chinese, we use this saying when we trying to express it is easier for a person to get what he wanted with help from others; and especially we use the term to tease a man who have a girlfriend because the help from the girl's sister / friend.

It probably have nothing to do with your topic. But that was something come to my head when I read your post.
