i drove up alone in january from CT to Jhb ... if you are looking to stay over midway, Colesberg is probably slap-bang in the middle but its a dump and there is nothing to do! there is however very very cheap accomodation for overnighters at the local prison (i know, it sounds strange!) but if you are strapped for cash for expensive hotels or Guest houses, the prison offers safe accommodation for around R30 per night. its a joke! if you are there, dont go to the one restaurant in the main street, rather go to the Engen one-stop for dinner at the wimpy... the restaurant is super crap!

but if you can, fly!

In miles you devide the 1400 by 1.6!

to drive is about 12 to13 hours, thats driving non (petrol brakes eatin included) stop and at the speed limit... did it in 10hours. but i was being stupid....... flying is about hour and fifteen minutes.
