1. To cut down on aerodynamic drag while it's still in the atmosphere.

2. To "line up" the payload, fuel, and boosters so that it flies nice and straight when the boosters start firing. If it were out of balance in any way, it would start to veer to one side and possibly even spin around like a bottle rocket with the same problem.

Once it's in the vacuum of space, aerodynamic drag is a non-issue. But it still has to be "balanced" so that the boosters and where you want it to go are directly opposite the center of mass. The shape of an interplanetary probe and/or rocket can look pretty strange, but as long as it's "balanced" in this way it'll go where you want the boosters to make it go.

It's a well known fact that rockets were invented by guys with wishes of having a big penis. They couldn't figure out how to make their penis larger, but by god they made some monsterous penis shaped objects that could ejaculate themselves into space.

Also, by coincidence, the penis is actually a very aerodynamic shape worthy of blasting off into deep space.

A penis and a rocket both cut through the air with less drag.

Think of it as a sharp-ended object and a square-shaped object moving through the air. Which one will encounter more air resistance? Rockets need to get through air resistance using less energy as possible to save fuel.

The reason is because when they tested vaginas in the wind tunnel for their aerodynamic qualities they concluded that vaginas to be like bricks in the wind. Furthermore vaginas made a lot of annoying flapping sounds in the wind tunnel.

Because that way the rocket is very aerodynamic and stores the most fuel the most efecient way.

Saves on construction material, because you can build it 60 feet tall and walk around telling people it's 100 feet.

Also, thrusting is easier.

Unfortunately, NASA filled the first ones with pilots instead of seamen.
