your heading attracted me and I love your question. But this isnt HOT at all ! lol
Anyways ... beautiful idea to connect the USA and Canada
How about California and HAWAII ? that would be crazy ?
Or France and England ??
Then again connecting the South of France with North Africa might be profitable also but I think impossible !

a) The reason for bridge is not created by people but politicians. They want tension mounting so that people would like to keep them in power for fighting war. Whenever election is round the corner, politicians cook some tension across the border. Hence if bridge is to be built, choose all such countries where some issues are cooked by politicians.
b) No anoyance, you are pointing to reality only.

A bridge between canada and mexico so all those NAFTA trucks can stop messing up the highways so there is less road construction.
