Go ahead, take your pick.

Softest SOLID element: Sodium.

Softest LIQUID element: Cesium (metallic liquid, along with mercury and gallium, but the one that is the most "fluid". Definitely softer that any solid element)

Least dense Gaseous element: Hydrogen.

I do not know what the softest element is. But on the Moh's scale of hardness the softest is Talcum.

I'm going with shopgirl on this one. The word 'soft' implies that you can actually 'feel' it...or a measure of hardness...now really, gases would be the least dense but you can't really 'feel' them or test them.

Gold would be the softest solid in a hardness test (hitting it with a hardness tester or rolling/shaping it) but you can feel mercury and it is a liquid, so that'd be my vote.

Well to the guy who said it has to be a solid there are plenty of gases on the Periodic Table of the Elements. Yeah looking at there densitys I'd have to go with hydrogen

This is the RIGHT answer!!! Now, I'm assuming normal room temperature, say 21°C. Gallium is a solid, but only until 29.7646 °C then it will become a liquid. So, @ room temperature, it is like butter in the summer.

I would say Mercury (Hg) is the softest element because it is a liquid at room temperature.

The question is 'softest ELEMENT' so air and talcum are not qualified. The softest element should be gold (AU)

francium is the softest solid element in nature.

Talc is the softest mineral--the Moh scale rates minerals based on their strength--a diamond is 10, and talc is 1.

gold
24 carat gold is the softest that is why it is mixed with copper to makeit rigid and becomes 22 karat and rest copper or 18 K and rest Copper
