Do you have a liver problem that causes a metabolic condition that causes the hiccups? If that's the case, I wonder why the doc didn't prescribe some kind of medication? For regular hiccups,
holding my breath until the hiccups go away, always works for me .Usually this takes several minutes and I break into hiccups several times during the process. I just stick with it and try not to breathe in and they eventually go away.

Hope this helps.

Phoenix is right. You have to hold your breath for as close to 30 seconds as you can.

In order for it to work you need to fully inflate your lungs (so that you can't take in any more air at all). It's impossible to hiccough if you can't breath in. This breaks the pattern - gone.

It's never failed when I've been there to talk people through it.

Good luck.

I was taught in childhood that hiccups is a sign of lack of oxygen in your system. Once it starts, I suggest that you take long deep breaths (inhale and exhale) You'll find it amazing but the hiccups will go away in a minute or two.

No medicinal claims, but in our case, it always works.

Aren't hic ups caused by your diaphragm contract out of rhythm
Its nothing to do with your liver?!?!?!

The best way I know to get rid of hic ups is drinking water from the wrong side of the glass.

Anyway hope this helps
