Poverty in the USA:

Each of the 50 states has a Metropolitan (city with sky scrapers). Surrounding the cities is suburbia ... and then outside of suburbia is the country.

The homeless are most visible in the area where the sky-scrapers are. You'll drive/ walk and see the homeless with cardboard signs asking 4 $$$. Then a typical city will have a section known as the "Ghetto" where the poverty is rampant, and crime is pervasive. Don't go here alone at night. Music Rappers have brough light to this poverty but have covered the seriousness of the poverty by flashing gold teeth, and fantasizing about helicopters, cars, and women ... when we watch a music video with a rapper, we think wealth ... but really, it's pure poverty with starving people living in the ghetto. The ghetto splits itself into seggregated area's of each city ... separating the blacks, mexicans, asians, and whites who are poor. Although the USA aims to melt cultures, it does a poor job since I can find seggregated communities ... however, I believe that each community intentionally seggregated itself.

Then in the area's surrounding the city ... suburbia ... all economic classes live; rich, middle class, and poor. Some of the "Red-neck's" and "Hillbillies" live in what is called "Mobile Parks" or "Trailer Parks". These are lots where a Mobil home is taken off a vehicle and placed in lieu of a house. Here a typical family will be a single mom, and 3-4 kids ... some of these are called "Red-necks". Since Mobile homes are not secured to the ground very well, they suffer greatly with all the hurricanes-forcing them in a lifestyle of poverty. I think every USA city has a trailer park community of poor people ... Don't confuse this with the "Rich" trailer parks ... for some reason the rich like to imitate the poor in the USA ... and stars like Oprah will buy a $500,000.00 Mobile vehical loaded with everything, and drive around to "Trailer parks" ... but these "Mobile Parks" are high class and cost serious $$$ to park there

Also, outside of the surburbia, past the rich, there are actual people who live in the hills and mountains. They are most associated with Southern States (the guys who tried to suceed from the USA; but Pres. Lincoln stopped 'em) ... Arkansas, Louisian, the Carolina's, Florida, etc-etc-etc. Often they will be in religions like the "Holy Rollers" (dancing & kissing poisenious snakes) and although society labels them poor, they live within their means and care little about what society thinks. They will live off of food they shoot and kill like squirrls, coons, rabbits (any varmit really).

Now, many of the elderly are facing neglect too. Especially with the aging "Baby-Boombers"... most of this class is rich, however, there are many who didn't buy houses, retirement accounts, and insurance, and now have to live with failing bodies ... no homes ... no medicine ... they're just SOL.

Well, thats quite a picture painted by the giggly giraffe. But it looks a little different from the point of view of a hillbilly.

There are starving people in America but very few. Most of the poorest people I see, have color TV's, drive beat up old cars, and are 20% or more overweight.

Fact is the poorest people in America have higher standard of living than the average European. And there is no comparision to the poverty of the communist utopia's of Zimbabwe or North Korea. Where they've stripped bark off trees to eat, and survivors have to guard the graveyards to keep fresh bodies from being dug up and eaten. Last time I checked even the poorest hillbilly's are doing better than that.

What are you asking? Let me rephrase it. Are there Americans who are afraid their basic needs won't be met in the future?

Many Americans are in debt and live paycheck to paycheck, so the answer is many Americans feel like their basic needs might not be met in the future. It's stressful to live in America in my opinion. Lack of healthcare and low income compared to cost of living makes things difficult for a lot of people.
