Rabbits are largely defenseless prey animals with short lifespans (under a year in the wild). With those circumstances, they have to reproduce as quickly and as many times as possible just to ensure that the species survives.

Don't suppose they have a choice in breeding at every opportunity, it will be a pre-programmed response, they are hunted, the instinct is for self -preservation. Incidentally, I don't see how rabbits could be described as "fornicating" - check your dictionary - it refers to voluntary sexual intercourse between unmarried persons.

Fornication is having sexual intercourse out of wed lock. As far as I know there is no rabbit marriage. So they really have no choice but to fornicate.

its a survival of the species thing...breed or become extinct. its the same with every species on the planet ( to a more or lesser extent). even humans have the same philosophy. we just live longer than bunnies so we take our time. p.s. a alternative word for fornicate would be procreate!

Life is tough for rabbits in the wild, there are lots of predators so in self defense they have lots of babies so they won't become extinct. Survival of the fittest or mostest in their case.
