I smoked my first cigarette at 11. I found an unopened packet on the floor and had to give it a go.
In Britain, the legal age for buying them is 16 rather than 18, and by the time I was 12 or 13 I could pass for 16 easily. So I just went into the shop and bought them. Normally, they were for other people. I didn't actually start smoking with any regularity untill I was 16 or 17.
Did I get caught? Yes, but my parents were so keen to think that I was a good boy that it was easy to pass off an excuse. The same was true when the house filled with a pungent blueish smoke. It was "incense, not weed". They same was also true when my mum came downstairs when I was 16 to find me grinding my teeth, twitching and muttering to myself at high speed after a coke and speed binge. Later that year, I just decided to tell them everything I had taken and everything I did. Since then (10 years) we have had a very good, honest relationship. Much better.

Hahaha. I tried smoking when I was younger than 18, just a few times and I was not caught. When I tried at 18 and a half I was caught by a neighbour who told my dad about it...Big scandal at home, all because of a damn cigarette.

Yes, I tried. I did it because I wanted to see what was the fuss all about. One day, a few of my friends and I bought a pack of cigarettes and we smoked one each. It was the worst spent 5 minutes of my life. I haven't tried it ever since and I regret it until today. We didn't get caught because we were in a park.
My advice: don't try, it's not worth it, not even for satisfying your curiosity.

Yeah, well I guess I was just in a crowd like that because all my friends smoked, drank at very young ages. It was more of a social thing than anything else. We just got them, cigs were a lot easier to get than alchohol, so they were more common. No one ever got caught. I gave them up at 16 when I got pregnant.

This was like 15 years a go, but yes I used to smoke. I'd have my 18 year old friends buy or I'd go to a place that I'd know didn't care. Of course, 15 years a go they weren't cracking down and fining people like they do now.
Just so you know. Smoking makes you stink really bad. Its NOT sexy and its a one incredibly huge WASTE OF MONEY.

No. My father's cousin had to have part of his throat removed from cancer caused by smoking, and he could only breathe through an open hole in his throat that was covered by a cloth. I was 10 when I saw the hole, and it made me sick. I have never tried a cigarette, and I never will!

Yes, I tried it when I was 15. It wasn't illegal then, so getting caught wasn't an issue. I went to the store and bought a pack and me and my friends shared them. Fortunately, I didn't like how sick they made me, and I gave it up. I'd have to have a 2nd job to afford it now!
