When I got fired. I wanted to continue in the same line of work so:
1) Put together a marketing plan including financial analysis. This will tell you how much money will be required and how to go about selling your wares.
2) Get a good location (mine had to do with retail and service)
3) Get a good team together, specially for sales
4) Do it and do it fast. Take the plunge!

I made a lot of money in the stock market. But it wasn't enough to just retire. But I just couldn't stand working for/with people that I could buy and sell.

Do research. The world is your oyster and there a lots of choices. Whatever you do, make sure you have enough capital to do it. Lack of capital is why most people fail. Borrow nothing, if you can. Read the E-Myth by Michael E. Gerber.

Just remember to follow the 4-point plan to getting rich in America:
1. Start a business
2. Build it up
3. Sell it
4. Repeat

Good luck!

When I realized what I wanted to sell, what would make a good profit. (I'm going to open a store someday, haven't yet.)

Wow...you need to consider a lot. Business plan, money, capital, all that good stuff. What are you going to sell? How are you going to sell it? How are you going to buy the stuff to sell? Where will your store be? Building it or renting it? What do you need to successfully run your business?

Do lots of research. This isn't something that's going to fall from the sky. It takes a lot of knowledge and hard work. I would advise going to college and getting a degree in business.

Best of luck!

When I realized that I had something to sell but didn't have a business name to sell under to limit my liability. I'm in the midst of getting one up now. A good resource is your local government site. I'm in New York so I go to www.nyc.gov for links to business resources.
