It's my boyfriend's B'day this Sunday, & I want to get him a book.
Please suggest a timeless book.
He enjoys mystery, sci-fi (kinda realistic, not outrageous) & strategizing.
Does not enjoy self-help.

The Stand by Stephen King, it's amazing. His best novel ever, before his stuff turned to crude.

I recommend the Miles Vorkosigan series by Lois McMaster Bujold. The Pern series by Anne McCaffrey is excellent. David Weber's Honor Harrington series is fabulous and I think your boyfriend will really like it. It's a little more grounded in reality than some other series. My all time favorite serious is the Keltiad by Patricia Kennealy Morrison but they're out of print and hard to find. Nice gift, I wish people would buy me books. Have you checked Amazon to see if he has a wishlist?

He might enjoy the In Death series by J. D. Robb (aka. Nora Roberts). Is kind of in the future, mystery/thrillers and some romance. Very addictive.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is a great book. You can read the first chapter online...or the short story the novel is based on at this site.
