I rescued one from a testing lab but now I've discovered he has a 20 a day habit. It's no use hiding them as he has a keen sense of smell and is adept at climbing. Would patches or gum be best to wean him off.

Since it was in a testing lab it probably can take quite a lot, right?

Why not use the old electric shock therapy on him?

Just lightly zap him whenever he reaches for the smokes....
I´m not talking all out lethal abuse of course, that would be a complete waste of the time and pain you went through to save him.

Might I suggest a cattleprod?

Yes they are suitable and they work, smoking was at one time a big problem for monkeys, so nicotine patches were tried out on them, they must work OK because last time I visited the zoo I only saw a couple of them smoking!
Hope this helps??

Let him smoke, he's probably had a hard life and takes comfort in the simple pleasures. Make him go and stand on the doorstep though. If I was you, I'd be more concerned about his penchant for flinging his own bile at passers by. I think you can patches for that too though, they seem to be working for my mum.

Remember the good old days when you got coupons in your fags? Those monkeys must have cornered the market in teasmaids, the lucky bleeders.

Leave him alone. I don't see why monkeys, or rabbits, for that matter, should be denied the pleasure of the weed.

Just don't give him the money to buy cigarettes and don't keep them in the house.
