I Separated from my husband and I agreed to divorce him but before any divorce proceedings took place he re-married and changed his faith to Muslim, But I do not know where I stand legally does this free me? I just don't know where I stand. He is in Tanzania east Africa I know his whereabouts but not his exact address. He is the father of my 3 children one of which is only 5 months old but he has shown no interest since we returned to the U.K He is British and I could possibly get him thrown out of Tanzania so that i can sort this out but I feel that by doing that he will cause problems for myself and my children

It sounds crazy. You're not free until you get a legal divorce. I wouldn't hesitate to go and get the divorce. It doesn't matter what he does. It DOES matter how you want to live. Do you want to legally be married to this fellow and deny yourself the opportunity to remarry yourself? Plus, I'm sure there are financial repercussions for staying married to him. What the laws of poligamy in your country? I would go through the divorce, because it's a matter of self-pride, self-integrity, and honesty. Don't even think about his life. He certainly doesn't think about you. If he causes problems, get police help.

This really depends on where he got re-married. All in all, it does not free you from the marriage until you go to an actual hearing and the divorce is finalized.
If he were to re-marry in the US before this hearing it would make his second marriage invalid, not yours. Remarrying somewhere else can have different legal actions, if any.
You should get together with your lawyer and by all means get those papers signed and finalized before he totally dissapears from sight. Use the re-marrying and conversion to aid you in keeping your children and get rid of him once and for all.

Report to the place where he got married to the second wife and inform the "kadhi" or the one who solemnizes the wedding that your husband is still married to you. See if they will help. In Muslim law, a man should seek consent from the first wife before marrying and that he is financailly stable enough to support two wives.

Yes, of course he is a bigamist. You need to get a divorce so you aren't drawn into any of his crazy doings. If you can get child support, great!, but I wouldn't count on it. Talk to an attorney as soon as you can. They must have handled things like this before.

Step 1: Contact a lawyer. I would expect that you need a copy of his marriage license. The problem is that he could have been divorced in any county in the country. What proof do you have that he never divorced, hearsay? If you can prove that he was previously married, he could be required to prove that he was divorced. Is there a no-fault divorce law in your state? You just need to get loose from him, in the simplest, most economical way possible. If you make him angrier than necessary, he could retaliate.

I can think of a few different words to call him. I think you need not worry about what problems he may cause , He already has by leaving you and 3 children. I think you need to give him as much aggrevation as you can and get him to atleast legaly seperate and pay for his childrens well being.
