It's a popularity contest basically. Whoever is more popular in terms of media milaeage is what counts. People tend to believe what they see or hear in the media, when they see ads or shows that portray the candidate to be "for the people" then they get elected. Showbiz people definitely have an advantage as they are seen by more people which is why even lesser known actors and actresses get elected to public office. With the vast number of positions that one has to elect someone to sometimes they just put whomever they remember just to fill up the ballots. And lastly, there is also the vote buying kind wherein whoever pays the highest gets the vote. With so many people living under the poverty line here in the Philippines, can you really blame the average desperate Juan? They need to do whatever they can to survive.

If you're not from the Philippines, why would you want to do that? Everyone knows voting/ elections in this country is fixed to the highest bidder or whoever is most popular or whoever the church endorses. The problem with voting in this country, they let even those who have not paid a single tax in their life vote. They let illiterate people vote and sometimes, even the dead get to vote. So go figure..
