Indeed, a crossover cable is the ticket..

If you're handy you can splice them yourself and save quite a pretty penny versus buying them..

Install Network cards on both the computers if they doesn't have. Use a crossover cable (The same RJ45 cable but connections is made as crossover, you can get it done at any accessory shop). Thogh this is the cheapest way, you can use two normal RJ45 cables with a small hub. That will enable adding more computer in future.

Now, let me assume you are using windows. Give an IP say 192.168.0.1 on first computer and 192.168.0.2 on second, both having same subnet mask 255.255.255.0 Try pining each other after connecting. If the ping is successul you are connected. Now assign a wokgroup in one computer and do the same in the second PC also. Right click My computer - > Properties -> Computer Name -> Clck change and assign a WorkGroup (not Domain). Once both the computers are added to same workgroup they can access the share folders each other. Type \\ in Run command to directly access the share.

u can used a router that way u can network up to 4 comp on it and use the network wiz to give it a name like room1 room2 etc...
if u dont have a router the only way to conect is useing 3 nic card 2 in master computer and 1 in other comp with cable(k5)not reg cable it a special cable it call a cross over u can get at radioshack if it wireless u need wireless cards and router and go to networking and seup wiz to id comp

Best ways are the following:
(1) LAPLINK Cable - cheapest.
(2) USB~USB Direct (w/ adapter) Cable.
(3) LAN Cable - crossover if no hub.

you need LAN cards and wirings. then you only need to connect them by wires and configure the IP address
