The medical term is joint hypermobility and people have it to different degrees. Some people may be extreamly hypermobile (100%) eg contortionists others may only be flexible say in their fingers or feet.
I was tested for joint pain some years ago and was told i was 60% hypermobile which means i am extra flexible in most joints but not my knees elbows or back, although strangely i can't do the spilts but i can bend my fingers back at right angles and look right over my shoulder.

its like when you can bend really well. Like when u can make ur thumb touch some part of your arm, or when you put your foot behind your head (my fav. trick ;)).
It's just when the joint where any two bones meet is special. i dont know exactly what it is but it makes u pretty damn flexible!

double jointed is when you can move some part of your body in a way that isn't normal. for example, i can dislocate my hip, my friend can dislocate her shoulder, my other friend can dislocate her jaw and my other friend can bend her thumb all the way back. stuff like that.
