I have a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero. I drove the car about 25 - 30 miles in 100 degree weather. A/C running high. When I came to a complete stop to drop my friend off at her house, the car died, and it was in drive. The car started right up, and it didn't do that on the way home. It was not overheating, and no check engine lights came on. Do you think this was a fluke, or not? It has about 75K miles on it. What could be the cause of this?

If this problem is intermittent, you'd have a worry and you'll need to be a bit detailed when explaining your symptoms. Does the car run any worse than it did before? Any previous maintenence or repair done to it? Check your gas? etc etc.

As a technician, I'd say if it happens again, than it's time to diagnose. It could've been anything from a faulty cpu sensor input, to sudden drop in oil pressure causing your fuel pump to shut off(some GM vehicles use oil pressure to close the fuel pump circuit.)

If you still had your a/c running flat out but came to a stop it means because your engine was running fast when you were travelling along ,your alternator was running faster and coping with the electrical draw on the engines hp.Sometimes they do this because of the sudden loss of power. Its more prevelant in smaller type engines.I had a toyota tarago that would stall all the time when i stopped at traffic lights if i did not turn off the air conditioner.I do not think this is a problem.
