my baby's overweight and weighs 10.2 kg. She used to have 4 ounces every 4 hours even at night time feedings. She doesn't like drinking water, only 1 or 2 ounces a day. How do you get a baby to drink plenty of water? How many ounces and how many times a day should a regular almost 5 months old baby be eating?

Do you not have a Pediatrician? Why would you ask the advice of non professional strangers on here rather than asking an MD who specializes in babies and children? God help your baby if this is where you are going to seek advice for it's well being and health. lol

You can't really go by a what the doctor says or what a book says. Every child is different. I have 3 children, and all of their feeding habits were totally different. IT DEPENDS ON THE CHILD. Between 3 months and 6 months, the child does gain weight and that is because they are drinking more formula. When that child starts eating baby food, they drink less bottles, and they start loosing weight.

I would try putting a bit of juice in her water, gives it some flavor....also if you are trying to cut down bottles, go out and buy baby cereal, oatmeal, ect. put about a table spoon to every 3 ounces in her bottle and shake it well with formula, not water, this will fill her up longer, I had to do it with my little girl to cut down the formula, that stuff can cause bad weight gain in some kids....also at 5 months old I started giving her # 1 babyfoods, like bannanas....once a day or so....that will help too!

Good luck let me know how it goes!

ok... well.... doctors arent so worried about babies drinking water anymore.....
your baby will eat what it wants.... can you tell the difference between your baby being hungry, and just needing to suck?
my grand daughter took 6 ounces avery 4 hours... but she would sleep most of the night.... (about 7 hours) at five months..
dont worry about the water....
i had a hard time getting my kids to take it too.... but that was years ago... my grand daughter is now 9 months old and her doctors told us water in the first year isnt deemed as necessary any more...
but i wasnt brought up that way... so i gave her water with a little sugar in it when she was newborn to about 4 months... then she just didnt like it any more... so i would give her one 4 ounce bottle of gerbers first stages juice watered down (half juice, half water) she loved it and it kept her from getting constipated...
and just before she turned 6 mos old i started her on rice cereal after her evening feeding..... about two hours before bed... she was quite content...
i mixed a little of her formula with the cereal at first... then that progressed to fruit juice (it's sweeter)
she will turn 10 mos on aug 21 and she crawls and walks (holding onto things) and wants to eat whatever everyone else eats... we still stick to baby foods to feed her because i dont want to give her anything that might give her tummy aches or make her constipated....

the way to determine how much your baby needs is:
100 millilitres of milk for every kilogramm of weight of baby and then divide that by the number of feeds per day. so if she is having 8 feeds per day:
100 ml x 10.2 kg = 1 020 ml (1.02 litres) for the whole day / 8 = 127.5 ml per feed. so you can calculate it with the correct number of feeds per day.
she is old enough to introduce solids - my advise is to start with rice cereal as it is non allergenic so its not likely that she will have a bad reaction to it.
good luck and all the best

Please don't put your baby on a diet. Let your baby eat all she wants. My daughter was in the 90 percentile in size. She lost all that baby fat before she turned 5. If you're going to restrict any foods, make it sweets once she starts on regular food. Unless your baby as some sort of metabolic disease...just relax.

Ask a pediatrician. This is the time to start introducing solids (cereals) to your baby. She might just be a big baby!

First answer good, second answer i dont agree with...Dont starve your child but dont let it eat all it wants, its not good for anyone. Consulting a DR. would be your best bet.
