put a picture of an apartment on a door, keep one in your purse, he should keep on in his wallet. And everytime you go to spend something... look at it and look at the item you want to spend the money one and decide which one is more important.
Also, sit down and write out a budget. That is the biggest mistake people do is not write out a budget. You put x-amount for bills, x-amount away, and x-amount for entertainment and stick to it. Make a schedule of things you like to do for entertainment, like go to a film once a month (or once every 2 weeks if that is not enough). go to outdoor free concerts, go hiking... and you know what saves you money also... constantly working. If you are working several hours a day, that less hours you have on spending money. but budget, budget, budget.

First make a monthly budget. Plan in food, rent, utilities, insurance, car expenses, entertainment, clothes, etc. Do not exceed that budget. Try to put a portion of the monthly income in a savings account earning interest and not to be touched for a long time. Try not to use your credit cards. Every $5.00 saved adds up. That's $60.00 a year. Note how many expenditures are not necessary. Cook at home instead of eating out. You can have romantic dinners that the 2 of you cook, with a little wine and candles. You are starting to see how serious money problems can be and you both need to work at it.

First decide on a percentage of your paycheck that you can afford to put back in your Savings. For example, 5% : Every time you get paid and it comes time to pay all your bills make sure you ALWAYS put the 5% into your Savings and anything you have left over you can spend freely. You must make contributing to your Savings AS IMPORTANT as paying your bills. Think of your Savings as "another bill". It takes a little self-discipline to stick with it. Good luck.

Don't go to the mall. It really does the trick for me. And take up sports.
