It probably has nothing to do with the period between relationships. My guess is that he was cross dressing before he met you. Crossdresser usually get sexual gratification that way. When he met you then he figured he was never going to need to cross dress again. He stops for a while, but returns because of the sexual pleasure he feels from it.

Ask him when was his first time? As a child did he ever wish he was a girl? Does he think he's really in woman in a man's body?

If he seems normal in every other respect, and you can put up with his cross dressing, then you still should make some rules, and enforce them.... examples:
1. Never wear my clothes without permission. It ruins them, and I don't like it.
2. Do not join other crossdressing clubs. When they get together they only encourage each other to go further and further into cross dressing. It's like an addiction.
3. Keep in confidential. Don't talk about it with friends and family.
4. Don't dress up to masturbate, that's nasty.
5. When dressed up like a woman then at least help out with the housework:

You can make up other rules to suit your own needs.

Men cross dress because it makes them feel good and relieves stress. If not having a relationship caused stress then maybe it could prompt cross dressing. But more likely he hasn't had a relationship because he hasn't found a woman who accepts it. OR perhaps the person is transgendered and trying to sort things out. It can be hard to be in any kind of relationship at that time.

Never heard of that happening but I won't say it's not possible. I started crossdressing around 12 years old. Most of the crossdressers I have spoken to started around that same age. But if you want to try it go ahead. By the way it won't make you gay if you are fearing that. A great deal if not the majority of crossdressers are straight.

I think cross dressing is more related to supression of your desires or interests. Maybe you just like womans clothing. To each their own.

Cross dressers are born transgendered and although they don't want to be women, they feel the need to express their feminine side.
