Try tracking where you're spending that $5.00 (and the $1.00 for a soda from the vending machine at work, instead of bringing a $0.33 one from home). This will help you see just how much you are wasting (you to bf - "did you realize we spend $75 every month on video rentals?") Once you know where your money is leaking out, it's easier to plug the leaks.

You MUST have a budget. There's no way around this. If you don't tell your money where to go, it will get up and walk out. Try the old envelope system. Each paycheck, put a set amount in a mutual fund (or someplace that isn't easy to get to) for savings. Then, designate a set amount for each of several envelopes (yours could be eating out, music, books, clothing, auto repairs, etc. - whatever you tend to spend cash on) and put CASH in each envelope. When you go out, just take the necessary envelope. When the cash is gone, that's all you get to spend until next paycheck. If you decide to 'rob' from another envelope, you're only robbing yourself.

Check out Dave Ramsey's book, "Financial Peace" or his other book, "Your Total Money Makeover". Both are great resources for getting you motivated. If there's a Financial Peace course in your area (check Dave's website), sign up, pay up, and go. It's the best money (and 13 weeks) I ever spent.

- Stop using your credit card. It's eash to spend money that you don't see.

- Pay off your credit card debt. The monthly interest will eat up your savings.

- You know exactly how much money you/your bf get each month. Monthly income - your monthly expenses is the money you need to budget. For monthly expenses include only the real ones that you can't do without (e.g. rent, gas, car payments, cost of meals, electricity, etc).

- Determine a fixed amount that you can spend on non-essential stuff. You can blow it off on anything -- dinners out, movies, small stuff, but when it's gone, you can't spend anything else until next month. This will help you control your spending, and make you think twice before buying something.

- Limit dinners out

- You have been living on your bf's income right now, right? And it sounds like it is enough to pay your bills? When you get a job, this means all the money you make is extra money. You can put all of this aside!

i think you already know the answer - control the spending.

Do everything you can to avoid paying interest and only buy what you need, forget the things you just want.

Take the smallest amount of money in your pocket when you go out and start thinking about what you will need for the apartment, relatives and friends may be able to help out and buying secondhand to get started is no shame

please cut of the cable/satelite bill, that is advertsising game. forget the fashion, do not look how your neighbor lived. just spending less than waht you make. do not rush to buy a new car every two year, keep run until the car is out. reading what economy heading,it may tell you something. if the gas is too high, do not buy a yukon ot tahoe. have emergency money and do not touch it because your tires or roof may leak, your engine may blow up, you have the money right away. credit card do not make you rich, try to limit used
