I am also trying to have a baby and i'm taking prenatal vitamins. What they do is actually help prepare ur body for pregnancy and create the best possible environment for ur future baby. Your doctor gave u those vitamins because he wants to make sure that when you do get pregnant, your baby will get all the nutrients and supplements she needs in order to develop normally. The first three months of pregnancy are the most crucial ones because thats when the baby's organs begin to develop - but , if you think about it, in the very early stages, we dont even know we are pregnant- so it only makes sense to make an effort to be as healthy as possible.
Also, all prenatal vitamins contain folic acid- and when a pregnant woman takes folic acid regularly, her baby's chance to suffer from a neural abnormality ( spina bifida, some brain abnormalities, etc ), is decreased by about 70 %.
Not to mention the fact that when you're taking prenatal vitamins, your body gets healthier and that increases ur chances of actually getting pregnant.
And yes, i've heard of Natelle, a friend of mine was taking them before she got pregnant with her first baby. She now has a beautiful baby boy.
So, good luck to you, keep taking your vitamins and i wish you all the best.

Purpose Of Prenatal Vitamins

I have just started taking prenatal pills this month. They are supposed to hep out by supplying vital nutrients that we lack (especially folic acid and iron), and make our bodies a little more welcoming. I'm hoping it will help me, because after 9 years, I' not sure how much longer I can wait. I haven't heard of Natelle, but as long as they have the nutrients you need, they should be ok.

I am trying as well, I lost my first little one with my new husband a day after we got married, the doc put me on prenatals. They are for helping give your body the vitamins that you need for a healthy pregnancy. If you are taking them before you KNOW you are pregnant you have them in your system from day one of the pregnancy, They also reduce risk of miscarriage. They don't hurt and they help with skin and nail/ hair growth. Good luck and make sure to take them regularly.....

Prenatal vitamins contain folic acid which reduces the risks of some birth defects. Dieticians and docs usually reccommend that women who are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant up their intake of folic acid. Prenatal vitamins are the easiest way to do this.

Also, it doesn't hurt anything to get in the habit of taking them now. They contain lots of good things for you and your soon-to-be baby. Think of it as making your body as baby-friendly as possible.

Prenatal vitamins don't do anything to "jump start" your body or trick it into thinking its pregnant. Your body will know it's pregnant because of the hormonal changes that occur once your fertilized egg implants itself into the lining of your uterus. All the vitamins do is give you more nutrients, thus making your body a healthier place for your baby to grow.

The purpose is to prevent spinal bifida, a serious birth defect, that is caused by a lack of folic acid in the diet. Spinal bifida cases were reduced by the taking of prenatal vitamins, but they were further reduced by having moms take the vitamins prior to becoming pregnant. There are other things that are prevented to but spinal bifida is the biggy.

It takes some time before pills actually affect the body, so by taking Prenatal Pills now, your body is preparing itself for any possible defects or problems you may encounter before you conceive.

The purpose is that even if you are not preg you should be prepared to create a healthy environment for your little embryo to be.. It never hurts to be prepared...PLUS you could be pregnant before you know it and the sooner you get on those vitamins the better, they are crucial in the baby development. Just be lucky the dr's already started you on them, most women dont take them til they are 8wks preg (thats usually around when they find out the news...). Goodluck, and listen to your DR he/she knows better than anyone!
