Friend have been asking who are God Father & God Mother will be for our baby. What exactly is the role of the God Mother & God Father and what chartacterics should we look for in them?

Usually these ppl are the ones who would be responsable for you children if god forbid something ever happened to both of the babys parents...That should also help you to answer the second question. The qualities you look for are simple, someone you would trust with your child's life :).

It's sad, but Godparents today play no real role in the child's life. Many people seem to pick them to honor their friends, or becuase it's a trendy thing to do.
The role of true Godparents is to see to it that their child receives a religious education if something ever happens to you. (I don't mean go to Catholic school, but your role as Godparent would be to see to it that your child goes to church every Sunday, you would teach them about God, etc. Basically Godparents are to respect and carry out the parents' wishes regarding religion and their kids.)
The traditional role of Godparents does NOT mean that you will take over custody/guardianship of the baby/child. It's strictly a religious thing.

Godparents take on the role of your child's guardians if you and your spouse should ever meet an untimely demise. You shouold pick someone who you think would be a good role model and who you would trust raising your child.
