Depends. If they can id you and you have no warrants you get a ticket. If you have warrants or a suspended license they take you to jail and impound your car. The car will not be released until you have insurance on it.
If you do not have insurance or a license get off the road before you hit me.

First, signal and pull far off the road. Put your car in park. Roll down all windows so officer can see in. Put your hands outside the window slowly and keep them far a part. Do not say anything that might incriminate you. You have the right of he 5th amendment.
If you have no insurance tell the officer you do have insurance and license, but not with you. Tell the office you do have insurance because if you didn't you could not have the safety inspection sticker and current vehicle registration sticker.
If you have drivers license and insurance then tell the officer where your drivers license and insurance information is located. Tell the officer to put him/her self in a position so he/she can see you get your license and insurance card. Do not contest being pulled over.

The officer could do one of three things 1) Take you in, 2) Give you a ticket and let you go, 3) Give you a ticket and drop you off somewhere where you can call a ride. It all depends on how he is feeling.

you will probably get a ticket. when you go to court, take your driver's license and they will most likely drop the offense.
your id is kind of like an american express card - don't leave home without it!

Depends what country and what city you are in. In Canada THEY USUALLY GIVE you 24hrs to provide your license to the police station. But they can just as easily charge you and have you pay a large fine.

if you don't have a license at all you'll be in trouble. If not, you can tell them your id number. You'll get a warning.

If you have one but its just not on you a fix it ticket and a lecture to carry your license at all times. (they run your social to verify who you are)
If you don't have one at all the tow your car and ticket your ***.
