Well, the problem is that the Israelis don't want to have a ceasefire (because they started bombing Lebanon) and the UN can't force them into one. But the Israelis don't seem to know that invading Lebanon won't stop the fighting.
Back when the "Islamic Jihad" group (the militants that sprang up after Hamas disarmed and started using politics) captured the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, the Islamic Jihad actually wanted to negotiate a prisoner exchange, and Egypt was willing to act as a liason. But instead, Israel flew in their helicopter gunships and drove in their tanks and started killing people, mostly people that weren't even involved, trying to force Islamic Jihad to give up the soldier. Israel itself is effectively using guerilla tactics.
I'm not acusing them, Hezbollah is using guerilla tactics as well, just as they did in response to Israel's massive attack on the Palestinian territories, where they captured two Israeli soldiers and tried to negotiate their release in exchange for stopping Israel blowing people up. But, instead of negotiating, Israel started attacking Lebanon, and people that aren't even involved. The Lebanese government has been trying to get rid of Hezbollah for years, but they're too weak, mainly because Israel occupied Lebanon from 1982-97 without helping them out any.
But attacking Lebanon in retaliation for Hezbollah's kidnapping was incredibly misguided. I know that at least one of the soldiers has turned up dead, and now the number of attacks on Israel have spiraled upwards.
Israel's current tactics just don't work, they'll bomb ten buildings in response for a rocket attack into their country. They kill the families of suicide bombers, thinking that it'll stop the bomber's relatives from attacking them, but the brutality just makes more people attack them. Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad aren't organised military groups, they're any man, woman or child that has an AK-47 or a Katuysha rocket. Every time Israel kills one militant, more pop up, no matter how many people they kill.
Both sides should pull their heads in, agree to a ceasefire, stop wasting innocent Lebanese and Israeli lives, and negotiate. Both will have to make compromises in order to prevent more bloodshed.

Honestly I think we should just finally let them have it out with each other the whole middle east I think the US and every other country should just step back and let the whole middle east destroy itself then when they are done and finally figure out how damn pointless all that fighting is (if they ever do) try to help them pick up the pieces. Remember the US had its inner struggle at one point in time of course it was on a very much smaller scale as the weapons werent on such a mass scale of destruction but i think the only way their struggle is gonna be solved is if you let them duke it out but make sure it doesnt go nuclear.
