i'd like to know if there is any other "free" source available to download anime or other series other than torrents?

I hate torrent it so slow like hell. Well I found "some" site that provide direct download. Its "long time ago" list. So may some link not work. Mail me if you want to inform me some broken link.

torrents are the best...though they maybe slow but you don't risk getting a disconnected download...
you can try limewire but it's quite hard to find what you want
