a space worm is either a figment of your imagination or a kind of space bug (see spaceship troopers)

seriously, what he suspect to exist is a space wormhole (but without the worm... only the hole : it wouldn't be created by a wom, only looks a bit like a normal wormhole, only in more dimensions...)
